Pre-School Feeding Program – Changing Lives One Meal at a Time
Apr 21, 2026In the heart of rural communities across Malawi, many young children begin their day on an empty stomach. For preschoolers, this not only affects their health but also their ability to learn, grow, and thrive. Recognizing this challenge, the Outreach Development Programme (ODP) launched its Pre-School Feeding Program—a simple yet powerful initiative aimed at ensuring that no child is left behind due to hunger. Every morning, as the sun rises, caregivers and volunteers gather at community-based childcare centres to prepare nutritious meals for the children. Using locally sourced ingredients such as maize, beans, groundnuts, and vegetables, the program provides balanced meals that meet the basic nutritional needs of growing children. For many of these children, this is the only reliable meal they receive in a day. The impact has been remarkable. Teachers report increased attendance and improved concentration among the children. Classrooms that were once quiet and disengaged are now filled with energy, laughter, and active participation. Parents, too, have expressed relief and gratitude, knowing their children are receiving both education and proper nourishment.
